Caesarion was the only son of Cleopatra VII and Julius Caesar, born in 47 BC in Alexandria, Egypt. His name, meaning "Little Caesar," reflected his father's legacy. As co-ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom alongside his mother from 44 BC, he was the last pharaoh of Egypt. After Julius Caesar's assassination in 44 BC, Cleopatra aligned with Mark Antony, but their defeat at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC by Octavian (later Augustus) sealed Caesarion's fate. In 30 BC, following Cleopatra's suicide, Octavian ordered Caesarion's execution, reportedly saying, "Too many Caesars is not good." He was killed at around 17 years old, ending the Ptolemaic dynasty as Egypt became a Roman province. Some historical accounts suggest Cleopatra sent him toward India for safety, but he was betrayed and captured. Caesarion's brief life symbolized the clash between Rome and Egypt during a pivotal era.
