Salah ad-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub, commonly known as Saladin, was a prominent figure in 12th-century history, particularly during the Third Crusade. He was a Sunni Muslim of Kurdish descent, the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty, and the first sultan of both Egypt and Syria.
